Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga
Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga, near Nashik in Maharashtra, stands close to the source of the Godavari, one of India's major rivers, in the town of Trimbak at the base of Brahmagiri hill.
About the Temple
The temple, built in black stone in the 18th century under Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao, is unusual among the Jyotirlingas in that its sanctum contains three small lingas said to represent Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva together.
Spiritual Significance
Trimbakeshwar is closely associated with the Godavari's origin at nearby Brahmagiri hill, and the temple is traditionally significant both for Jyotirlinga darshan and for the Kumbh Mela, held here (as well as at Nashik) once every twelve years.
