How to Choose the Right India Tour Package

Hill station, beach, wildlife or pilgrimage — a practical guide to narrowing down India's huge range of tour packages to the trip that actually fits your group.

By Bharat Yatra Editorial Team

India is large enough that "which tour package should I book" rarely has one right answer — it depends on who's travelling, how much time you have, and what kind of trip you actually want. Before comparing specific itineraries, it helps to answer a few practical questions.

Start With Who's Travelling

A group of friends planning an adventure trip to Ladakh has very different needs from a family with young children and grandparents. Senior citizens and young children generally do better on itineraries with fewer long drives and altitude changes — hill stations like Darjeeling or Munnar tend to be gentler than high-altitude circuits like Ladakh or Kedarnath, which involve real physical exertion.

Couples on a honeymoon usually prioritize privacy and pace over covering the maximum number of sights, while group tours and college trips often want the opposite — more destinations, more activity, less downtime.

Match the Season to the Region

India's regions run on very different calendars. Hill stations and Ladakh are best visited roughly between April and June, and again after the monsoon in September–October — Ladakh itself is only accessible by road for part of the year. Kerala's backwaters and Goa's beaches are pleasant through winter (November–February) but very different during the monsoon. Rajasthan and Gujarat are best avoided at the peak of summer. When you contact us, tell us your travel window and we'll flag if it's a strong or weak time for that particular destination.

Decide How Much You Want Bundled Together

Some travellers prefer a single-destination trip done properly — just Darjeeling, or just Goa — rather than rushing through three states in one week. Others want a wider circuit precisely because they may not return to that part of India again soon. Neither approach is wrong, but it's worth deciding this before comparing itineraries, since a 4-day Darjeeling-only trip and a 10-day Darjeeling–Gangtok–Pelling circuit are genuinely different products, not just different lengths of the same one.

Whatever you're weighing, every package on this site is a starting point, not a fixed script — call or WhatsApp us with your dates, group size and priorities, and we'll adjust the plan accordingly.
